Non-Warranty Repairs

UITS support standardized, HuskyPC Windows and Macintosh computers only. For computer outside of the scope of the HuskyPC Program, please utilize the following University support teams:

Internet Explorer 8

On March 19, 2009 Microsoft released Internet Explorer 8. Microsoft has specified that starting the 3rd week in April, users will receive a notification through Automatic Update about IE 8. When Microsoft pushes the new version of IE, Windows XP/Vista users will receive a notification message. The message will let you know when IE 8 is ready to install; you will receive a welcome screen and you will be given three options: Install, Don't Install, and "Ask Me Later".

Recommendation: DON'T INSTALL IE 8

Windows Vista & Office 2007

In May 2008 Windows Vista will replace Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2007 will replace Microsoft Office 2003 on all new computer purchases of a Windows UConn standard HuskyPC http://huskypc.uconn.edu. For more information on availability, support, education and training go to http://software.uconn.edu/vistaoffice/index.html.

To upgrade Office to Office 2003 or Office 2007 go to http://officeupdate.uconn.edu.

File Encryption

Encryption is the process of encoding or decoding information so that people will be unable to read it. A password (key) is required to encrypt or decrypt the information.
