Installing Spider
1. Determine if you have the proper system requirements below:
- Macintosh OSX and above
2. Download Spider files.
3. Install Spider software
- Open the Spider_OSX.dmg file to mount the Spider_OSX disk image.
- Open the disk image.
- Copy the Spider file to the Applications folder.
- Double-click the Spider file in the Applications folder to start the program.
4. Scanning the Computer
- After starting the program, select Spider, Preferences from the navigation bar.
- To scan the computer type in your user folder in the Start Directory field and check Process Sub folders.
- On the Regexecs tab, select all three options to scan for Social Security numbers and credit card numbers.
- On the Logging tab, check Log to File and note the location of the log file in Log File Location.
- Close the preferences windows.
- Click Run Spider.
When the Spider scan is complete, double-click the log file to see its contents.
Once cleanup of the data is complete securely delete the spider.log file by moving it to the trash and from the Finder menu, choose Finder, Secure Empty Trash.
