General Information about Internet Explorer 9
On March 14, 2011 Microsoft released Internet Explorer 9. Microsoft has set IE 9 to be installed through Automatic Updates.
How will this Impact UConn personal computers and laptops
Many of UConn's standard computers are configured for Automatic Updates; this is essential to maintain proper security levels. Microsoft pushes the new version of IE, Windows Vista/7 users will receive a notification message. The message will let you know when IE 9 is ready to install; you will receive a welcome screen and you will be given three options: Install, Don't Install, and "Ask Me Later".
Recommendation: WAIT TO INSTALL IE 9
- We are currently in the process of testing UConn applications. Most vendors have not certified their applications for IE 9 at this time; therefore support will not be provided should problems occur. To avoid conflicts, we are asking that you do not download the new version at this time. Delaying installation will give the vendors and UConn application support staff the time they need to complete their testing.
- However, if you choose to install the latest version of IE, you will be able to uninstall and return to using IE 8, should you run into problems with some of your web applications.
