General Information about Internet Explorer 7
On November 1, 2006 Microsoft will begin to distribute Internet Explorer
version 7 as a high-priority update via the Windows Update and
Microsoft Update sites. At this time, UITS would recommend that you
DO NOT allow the installation of IE7 when prompted.
This can be done by clicking "Ask Me Later" or "Don't Install"
when prompted.
How will this Impact UConn personal computers and laptops
- Many of UConn's standard computers are configured for Automatic Updates; this is essential to maintain proper security levels. When Microsoft pushes the new version of IE on November 1, Windows XP users will receive a notification message. The message will let you know when IE 7 is ready to install; you will receive a welcome screen and you will be given the choice to accept, decline or postpone the installation.
Recommendation: POSTPONE the Installation of IE 7
- Although several of UConn’s applications have been tested and seem to run successfully with IE 7, the vendors have not certified their applications for IE 7; therefore support will not be provided should problems occur. To avoid conflicts, it is recommended that when you are prompted for installation you reply postpone (“ask me later” or “don’t install”). Delaying installation will give the vendors and the UConn application support staff the time they need to complete their tests.
- However, understand as a safe guard that if you choose to install the latest version of IE, you will be able to uninstall and return to using IE 6, should you run into problems with some of the applications you use.
